We went to a Korean Restaurant in Adriatico Street in Vito Cruz, Manila (near DLSU). The restaurant was small and I actually forgot the name of the restaurant because it was in korean (although I think they had an english translated name). Anyway, my family is a big fan of korean food so we decided to eat in this place!
There's always FREE stuff in authentic Korean restaurants! In this restaurant, we had 7 free appetizers. In clockwise direction, pickled veggies, nuts with dilis, soft tofu-like thing, egg, kimchi, and a spicy kimchi-like dish. The two small dishes in the center are sauces for the Samgyeupsal (pork belly yummy), the red bean paste, and sesame oil with a lot of salt.
Soft Tofu Soup (200 Php) |
We always order Soondooboo Chigae (Spicy Soft Tofu Stew) in Korean Restaurants. This one had a similar taste with the version of Kaya restaurant! The soup was not that spicy for me (I have high spice tolerance). It was filled with tofu, squid, clams, an egg, and bits of pork. One order also comes with a cup of rice!
Jajangmyeon (150 Php) |
One of my favorite korean noodle dishes is the Jajangmyeon (Blackbean Noodles) so I had HIGH hopes for this. However, this place's version wasn't that good. The noodles tasted like packed noodles. The dish was quite dry and the taste was not up to par with the Jajangmyeon that I had in restaurants in Malate.
FREE veggies with the Samgyeupsal |
We had free veggies because we ordered Samgyeupsal! The veggies looked great and fresh plus, you can keep on requesting for more of these veggies (I think we had 4-5 plates of veggies).
Samgyeupsal (200 Php) |
The STAR OF THE SHOW is the Samgyeupsal! This is the korean version of liempo (pork belly)! You can choose to cook these yummy babies in your table or you can let the waitresses cook them for you. Each order of Samgyeupsal comes with a cup of rice as well! Their version was very yummy and their cuts were not that thin.
Free Red Bean Paste with the Samgyeupsal |
To add flavor to the Samgyeupsal, you need to put some of this paste with it! What koreans normally do is pick up a piece of veggie, get a slice of pork belly, put red bean paste, a bit of rice, and a bit of sesame oil, then eat everything in one go. Don't let this red bean thing fool you! It's actually the BETTER part of the Samgyeupsal (of course the best part is the pork itself).
